What to do if you find a stray:

If you find a stray, call your county's animal control. In Lapeer county, call Lapeer Animal Control and report that you found an animal. They will let you know if anyone has reported one missing. All strays can be held at your house for up to 48 hours. After 48 hours, all strays must go to Lapeer County Animal Control. To view their current strays, click here.

Do not keep the stray. It is unlawful to keep a stray animal that does not belong to you. They may have an owner looking for them or potentially have medical conditions you are unaware of.  Please turn the stray in to animal control and adopt it legally once the stray hold is over. ​Stray holds are typically 5-7 business days.

Nextdoor
Look for posts from neighbors who might have found your pet. Scroll through your Newsfeed and see if anyone has posted about finding your pet.

Based out of Imlay City, Aerial Solutions is a certified drone pilot. They provide drone thermal search services for lost pets & livestock
Search For Animal Welfare Groups by Distance
Search for animal shelters and rescue centers that are in surrounding cities. Search by location, organization or state. Some dogs are naturally prone to wondering and known to travel miles.

Most important tip... Don't give up!

Remember that many lost animals have found their way back home. Animals who have been lost for months (and even years) have been reunited with their owners.
